SRINAGAR, 25 March: The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed deep sorrow over the devastating fire that engulfed Old Town Baramulla, leaving nearly 30 families homeless and in distress. The tragic incident has not only reduced homes to ashes but has also disrupted the lives and livelihoods of those affected.
In a statement to Asia Speaks, PDP Spokesperson confirmed that a delegation led by District President Baramulla, Mohammad Rafique Rather, along with senior leaders Badhir Ahmad Bhat, Mohammad Shafi Pakiza, Ghulam Mohammad Dar, Irshad Ahmad Gojree, Ghulam Hassan Khan, Farooq Wasil, and others, visited the affected area to assess the situation firsthand.
Expressing solidarity with the victims, Rafique Rather emphasized the urgent need for assistance. “The affected families have lost everything—their homes, belongings, and means of sustenance. It is our collective responsibility to extend a helping hand,” he said. He urged the government to announce a comprehensive compensation and rehabilitation package to help the victims rebuild their lives with dignity.
Rather also commended the efforts of Civil Society Baramulla for stepping in to assist the affected families. He assured that PDP leadership would provide full support, both in cash and kind, to the group constituted by civil society to aid the victims.
As the affected families struggle to recover from the devastation, appeals for immediate government intervention and community support continue to grow.
Meanwhile, PDP President Mehbooba Mufti has assured full support to the victims and stated that she will personally take up the matter with the government to ensure adequate relief and rehabilitation measures are provided, It reads.
