Srinagar, Aug 02 : Residents of Kawa Mohalla and Baba Demb Khanyar in central Kashmir’s Srinagar held a peaceful protest today against the Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Department (JKPDD) due to consistently high electricity bills.
Some of community members, including families, marched through their neighborhoods, holding signs and chanting slogans. The protest highlighted their struggle with skyrocketing electricity costs, which have doubled in recent months without explanation.
A local from the area said that “We cannot sustain these exorbitant bills. It’s affecting our daily lives and well-being.”
The peaceful demonstration drew media attention, amplifying the residents’ demands for transparency and a fair billing system. The JKPDD has yet to respond, but the community remains hopeful for a resolution.
This protest underscores the broader challenges faced by many in Kashmir, where rising utility costs add to the daily struggles of residents. —(KB)
