Traditional Healthcare Takes Centre Stage at SKICC Through AYUSH Outreach

Srinagar 2 Oct: the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, the Department of AYUSH, J&K, under the directions of Director AYUSH J&K, Dr. Ajay Kumar Tikoo, organised an AYUSH OPD and Medicinal Plants Exhibition Gallery at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC), Srinagar, in collaboration with the Department of Education, as part of the Gandhi Jayanti commemorative programme.


The event was graced by the presence of Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, Shri Manoj Sinha, and Hon’ble Minister for Health & Medical Education and School Education, Smt. Sakina Itoo, who attended the commemorative programme at SKICC.


The AYUSH initiative was coordinated by the District AYUSH Office Srinagar under the guidance of District AYUSH Officer, Srinagar, Dr. Mohd Sultan Paray, with the objective of creating awareness among participants about the rich heritage, preventive healthcare approach and therapeutic potential of the AYUSH systems.
A dedicated AYUSH Exhibition Gallery was established at the venue, showcasing a wide variety of medicinal plants, raw drugs and dried herbs. The exhibition provided participants an opportunity to directly observe medicinal resources traditionally used in AYUSH systems and understand their importance in health and wellness.
An AYUSH OPD was also conducted at the venue, where participants/patients were provided consultation and free AYUSH medicines. The visiting participants were sensitised about the different AYUSH systems and their role in preventive, promotive and holistic healthcare.
Dr. Nuzhat Manzoor, Dr Mohammad Jamal Bhat and Dr. Khansaw Mushtaq interacted with the participants and provided detailed information regarding AYUSH systems, their scope and relevance in contemporary healthcare.
The exhibition stall and medicine distribution were efficiently supported by Sukhbir Singh and Bashir Ahmad, who assisted in the arrangements and facilitated the distribution of medicines to the beneficiaries.
The initiative provided an important platform for public health awareness and direct community engagement, bringing AYUSH healthcare services, traditional knowledge and medicinal resources before a diverse gathering on the significant occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.


At the conclusion of the programme, Director AYUSH J&K, Dr. Ajay Kumar Tikoo, expressed satisfaction over the smooth and successful conduct of the programme and appreciated the coordinated efforts of the officers and staff involved.
The Department of AYUSH reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening community-oriented healthcare, preventive health awareness and wider access to AYUSH services, while continuing to bring the benefits of traditional systems of medicine closer to the people of Jammu & Kashmir.
