Srinagar: The NEP Implementation Cell of Amar Singh College, Srinagar, organized a highly informative and interactive session on the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 today, focusing specifically on the innovative 3+1 Honours undergraduate programme model especially its research component. The session featured Prof. Mohd Ashraf Shah, Consultant NEP for the University of Kashmir, as the distinguished resource person.
Prof. Shah delivered an in-depth presentation, meticulously unpacking the structure and philosophy of the 3+1 programme outlined in NEP 2020. He placed particular emphasis on the crucial final year (Semesters 7 and 8), which are dedicated to intensive research or specialized Honours study, providing students with enhanced skills and deeper knowledge in their chosen disciplines. Prof. Shah elaborated on the operational modalities, implementation frameworks, credit structures, and the expected learning outcomes for these critical semesters, offering clarity on how this model elevates the undergraduate experience and prepares students for diverse career paths and higher studies.
Following the presentation, Prof. Shah actively engaged with the college faculty who raised pertinent questions and sought clarifications regarding the practical implementation of the 3+1 model, curriculum design for the research/honours component, faculty roles, resource requirements, and other issues.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from the teaching faculty of Amar Singh College. On the occasion, Principal, Amar Singh College, Prof. Ajaz Ahmad Hakak, reiterated the institution’s commitment to the comprehensive and effective implementation of NEP 2020.
