Srinagar, Dec 4 : People Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti has appealed to the Omar Abdullah-led government to reinstate SRO 49 (2018) of the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation Act.
“This move aims to ensure equitable opportunities in education for the youth of Jammu and Kashmir, who constitute 65% of the population and have faced years of violence and unrest,” she said.
She highlighted the importance of SRO 49, which allocates seats for postgraduate medical and technical courses based on merit while protecting reserved categories like Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and other disadvantaged groups.
The PDP President attached a copy of the 2018 notification of SRO 49 to her social media post, emphasizing the need to reconsider the aspirations of J&K’s youth, who are struggling for a better future. [KNT]
