Jammu, Sep 4 (UNI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday kick-started his poll campaign from Banihal belt of Ramban district for the Assembly election and said that the party along with the help of INDIA bloc partners will ensure restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.

Rahul was addressing an election rally at Sangaldan in Banihal Assembly constituency to seek votes for former JKPCC Chief and Ex-minister Viqar Rasool Wani.

Banihal among 25 other segments will go to poll on September 18 in the first phase of the three-phased assembly election.

“We wanted that the statehood be restored before polls but the BJP did not agree to it and wanted to conduct the elections first,” the former Congress President said in the address.

The leader of opposition in Lok Sabha also took a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi stating that his confidence had almost lost after the recently held Lok Sabha election.
