Srinagar: Continuing with its unabated schedule of multiple sports activities, Amar Singh College today held the annual intra-faculty cricket match between Team Blue and Team Red. The match, played at the college cricket ground, was organised by the College Sports Committee in collaboration with the Physical Education Department of the College. Team Red won the match, which turned out to be an exciting contest, by a margin of 2 Wickets.
Team Blue was captained by Prof. Shahnawaz Muntazir of the Department of English while the Team Red was led by Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad of the Department of Political Science.
Team Blue won the toss and decided to bat first. In the stipulated overs, Team Blue could only score 96 runs. Prof. Bilal from the Department of Geography topscored for them with a well made 54. For Team Red, Prof. Basharat of the Department of English and Dr. Hilal of the Department of Physics took 3 wickets each with their medium pace bowling.
Chasing a modest score of 97, the Team Red achieved the target for the lost of 8 wickets with 9 balls to spare. For the Team Red, Dr Waseem of the Department of Economics topscored with a quickfire 40 of only 17 balls while Prof. Abbas of the Department of Political Science also scored unbeaten 28 runs to take the Team Red to victory. For the Team Blue, Dr Javed of the Department of Economics took 3 wickets.
The match concluded with a modest prize distribution ceremony in which the players were commended by the Incharge Principal, Prof. G.M. Nengroo, Staff Council member, Prof. Ishaq Ahmad and Mr. Tanvir, Physical Director of the College. The faculty members at the occasion thanked the College administration, Sports Committee and Physical Department for giving opportunity to both the faculty and students to take part in the sporting activities as these which they regarded as being an essential part of the modern day curriculum.
