Srinagar, Sep 19 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Srinagar on Thursday to address an election rally at Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium amid unprecedented security.
PM Modi’s rally, to seek votes for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the ongoing Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, would mark his third visit to the Valley this year.
The BJP is contesting 19 out of the 47 Assembly seats in Kashmir. Voting for the second phase of the three-phased election will take place on 26 seats on September 25. Results will be declared on October 8.
Officials said a multi-tier security is in place in Srinagar and its adjoining areas, officials said.
Security forces have increased patrols around the venue as part of an area domination exercise. Security forces have established checkpoints at various places and are randomly checking the vehicles entering Srinagar.
PM Modi is also scheduled to visit the Katra town of Reasi district in Jammu division to address another public later during the day.
