Srinagar, 17 August,2024: Senior J&K National Conference Leader & former Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Haji Mubarak Gul has expressed strong support for the demands of the medical community in the wake of the recent tragic rape and murder incident in Kolkata.
In a statement released to ‘Asia Speaks’, Gul condemned the brutal crime and called for the strictest possible measures against those responsible. Highlighting the severity of the situation, the veteran NC Leader emphasized the need for immediate and harsh legal action to ensure justice for the victim and to act as a deterrent to future crimes.
“The heinous act committed in Kolkata is a stark reminder of the urgent need for stringent measures against perpetrators of such barbaric crimes,” said Mubarak Gul. “The rapists must face the death penalty to ensure that justice is served and to send a clear message that such violence will not be tolerated.”
Gul also expressed solidarity with the medical professionals advocating for justice and stressed the importance of a robust legal framework to protect victims and hold offenders accountable. Mubarak Gul has called for the enactment of a Central Protection Act for healthcare workers, as advocated by the medical professionals. This legislative measure is aimed at ensuring the safety and security of those in the healthcare sector who are increasingly facing violence and threats.
“The pain and suffering inflicted on the victim and her family are beyond words,” Gul added. “We must come together as a society and demand that our legal system acts decisively and with the utmost severity in cases of sexual violence.”
