Srinagar 31st May: In order to celebrate the spirit of Yoga, Directorate of Ayush J&K in collaboration with Moraji Desai Institute of Yoga, New Delhi celebrated “YOGOTSAV” —“Countdown Yoga activities to 9th International Day of Yoga which will be celebrated on 21st June 2023” at Polo Ground Srinagar. During the “YOGOTSAV” campaign, Yoga sessions are being organized in all 20 Districts of J&K. Minimum 100 yoga sessions are envisaged to be conducted during this Mhahotsav
As per ‘Asia Speaks’ correspondent’ a Mega session of Yoga was conducted at Polo Ground by Directorate of Ayush, J&K on 31st May 2023 from 7.00 to 9.00 AM. The session was inaugurated by Bhupinder Kumar, IAS Secretary to the Government Health & Medical Education Department in presence of Dr Masood Tanvir, Principal Govt Medical College Srinagar, Dr Mohan Singh, Director Ayush, J&K and Smt Nuzhat Ara Divisional officer Youth Services and Sports. The program was attended by all Medical/ Para-Medical Staff of Directorate of Ayush J&K, Para-military forces, Civil Society members and common masses. Trained Yoga Instructors of Directorate of Ayush, J&K under the guidance of Dr Ruhi Tabssum (Yoga Expert) demonstrated common Yoga Aasans and Pranayams for prevention of life style disorders ailments viz. Diabetes mellitus, Obesity, Respiratory problems, Joint Pains, Hypertension etc in accordance with the Common Yoga Protocol used worldwide. The participants were made aware of Yog Nidras and meditation for stress related disorders and for elevating the concentration levels.
Speaking on the occasion with ‘the Mirror of Kashmir’ Bhupinder Kumar, IAS Secretary to the Government Health & Medical Education said that the proposal to celebrate International Day of Yoga was first introduced by our Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji in his address during the opening of the 69th session of the United Nations General Assembly. He highlighted the role of Yoga in physical, mental and spiritual well being of the individual and the ways of maintaining a balanced attitude in day-to-day life that endows skill in the performance of one’s actions. He informed that Yoga has always been a soft power of India which enshrines mindfulness, awareness and consciousness. He further informed that Health, Wellness and Global peace cannot be achieved without an aware and empathetic mind as laid down in the Yogic principles.
Dr Mohan Singh, Director Ayush J&K said that Directorate of Ayush J&K is organizing various activities to the countdown of 9th International Day of Yoga in order to promote the proven yoga practices among common masses with the goal to achieve holistic health that is physical and mental well being. He informed that Directorate of Ayush in collaboration with District Administration and other allied Departments is regularly organizing Yoga events at all District Headquarters of J&K wherein people from all walks of life are participating. He further informed that in order to promote yoga at grass root levels trained Yoga Instructors of Directorate of Ayush organize yoga sessions on daily basis in all Ayush Health & Wellness centres established in J&K. He said that finale Mega Yoga Event on 9th IDY will be organized on 21st June 2023 at District Headquarters of Jammu/Srinagar in collaboration with Bhartiya Yog Sansthan, Directorate of School Education and Department of Youth Services and Sports with participation of PRIs, NGOs and common people, besides Yoga events will be organized in all District Headquarters of J&K in collaboration with District Administration, Bhartiya Yog Sansthan, Self help groups of National Rural Livelihood Mission and Department of Youth Services and Sports with mass participation of common people. He further stated that Seminars/ Awareness lectures/ Demonstrations of Common Yoga Protocol will be organized at District level with the help of Master Yoga Trainers. Apart from these activities Yoga Asana-Pranayams/ Painting Competitions in schools will be organized in Coordination with Department of School Education in all District Headquarters. IEC posters about yoga practices will also be displayed so that the school going children are made aware of Yoga practices which are beneficial for physical and mental well being. He thanked Shri Bhupinder Kumar, IAS Secretary to the Government Health & Medical Education for his continuous guidance and support for making these events a big success. He also thanked Director Moraji Desai Institute of Yoga, New Delhi for his support to organize mega Yoga session at Srinagar, he added.
Assistant Director (HQ) Dr Sujad Hussain Shuja , Divisional Nodal Officer Ayush Health & Wellness Centres Kashmir Dr Mushtaq Ahamd Parray, In-Charge Officer Govt Unani Hospital Shalteng Srinagar Dr Farooq Naqashbandi, all District Ayush Officers/District Nodal Officers Ayush of Kashmir Division participated in the session and assured that such events will continue to the countdown of IDY-2023 to be celebrated on 21st June 2023.
