Srinagar, Jun 02 :\u00a0<\/strong>For the very first time in the history of GMC Srinagar, a live robotic surgery was relayed from Chennai on Friday that kept the audience glued to their seats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prof Mufti Mahmood Ahmad, Head of Department, General and Minimal Access Surgery GMC Srinagar, told the news agency\u2014(KNO) that the second day of the UROSURG-2023 started with an excellent demonstration of eight advanced laparoscopic procedures in urology and surgery by experts from Department of General and Minimal Access Surgery, GMC Srinagar and those from Delhi and Mumbai.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cVarious procedures demonstrated were Laparoscopic resection of large gastric gist, eTEP, Laparoscopic Heller\u2019s myotomy, Laparoscopic Hydatid cystectomy, Laparoscopic completion cholecystectomy, laparoscopic partial Nephrectomy, and RIRS with laser lithotripsy,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The hallmark of the day was a live demonstration of Robotic distal pancreatectomy relayed live from Chennai. The audience remained glued to their seats and watched the procedures with utmost interest. The delegates appreciated the rich operative feast and the hospitality of the organisers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event was inaugurated on Friday afternoon by Secretary Health and Medical Education, Bupinder Kumar, who was the chief guest. He was flanked by the guests of honour Prof Mahmooda Khan, former HOD Surgery and Prof Gulzar Mufti, the doyen of Urology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among those present on the dais included Prof Iqbal Saleem, Prof Mohd Saleem Wani, Prof Arif Hamid, Prof Mufti Mahmood and Dr Syed Javed Qadri. The inaugural function was followed by a mesmerising cultural programme organised by the GMC students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On day one, about 12 cases of various urology and minimal access surgery were relayed live to the packed auditorium of 400 delegates from within and outside the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the experts who operated the advanced urological procedures on Thursday were Prof Rahul Gupta, Prof Mufti Mahmood, Dr Syed Javed Qadri, Dr Shafeeq Ahmed and Dr Manzoor Chalkoo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Various procedures performed included Laparoscopic repair of UVF, Laparoscopic Adrenalectomy, Laparoscopic Nephroureterectomy and Supine PCNL. Among the minimal access surgeons who operated were Dr Anil Heroor, Prof Iqbal Saleem, Prof M R Attri and Prof Mushtaq Chalkoo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis rich academic programme has been formulated for the benefit of young surgeons, postgraduate students and DNB\/MCH students of various academic institutions,\u201d Prof Mufti Mahmood told KNO.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said that on June 3, Saturday, there shall be guest lectures, podium presentations, video presentations and panel discussions on various confounding clinical issues.<\/p>\n
