Srinagar, Dec 25 :\u00a0<\/strong>With no letup in the cold wave conditions across the Valley, Jammu and Kashmir has continued to witness an increase in the deficit rainfall as the Union Territory has recorded a precipitation deficiency of 81 per cent in the past three months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From October 01 to December 25, 2024, Jammu and Kashmir has recorded a deficit rainfall of 81 per cent as against the normal precipitation of 110.0 mm; the UT has recorded only 21.0 mm rainfall during the period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the data , Shopian in South Kashmir continued to top the list with 97 per cent deficiency, followed by Poonch in Jammu division and Kulgam in South Kashmir with 96 per cent and 95 per cent respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The data further reads that Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir has recorded a deficit rainfall of 88 per cent during the period while Udhampur in Jammu division too has recorded a similar deficiency in the ;last nearly three months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pulwama in South Kashmir and Kishtwar in Jammu division have recorded a deficit rainfall of 92 per cent each, the data reads, adding that Budgam in Central Kashmir has recorded a deficit rainfall of 91 per cent during the period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kupwara in north Kashmir has recorded below 50 percent deficiency as against the normal precipitation of 133.7mm, the region has recorded a rainfall of 69.6 mm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, Samba is the only weather station across J&K where above normal rainfall has been recorded during the period as against the normal precipitation of 42.2mm, it has recorded a rainfall of 47.0mm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anantnag in South Kashmir also recorded a deficit rainfall of 89 per cent while Bandipora and Baramulla recorded a low precipitation of 76 per cent and 73 per cent respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, the cold wave conditions are expected to continue till tomorrow at isolated places.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As per the details, Srinagar has recorded a low of minus 7.3 degree Celsius while Qazigund, a gateway of Kashmir has recorded a low of minus 6.6 degree Celsius.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kupwara has recorded a low of minus 6.4 degree Celsius while Pahalgam, a famous tourist destination and Gulmarg, a famous ski-resort have recorded the minimum temperatures of minus 8.4 degree Celsius and minus 6.6 degree Celsius respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moreover, the weatherman here has predicted generally cloudy weather conditions from December 27 to 28 with the possibility of light rain over plains of Jammu and light snow over the higher reaches of Chenab valley & Pirpanjal Range.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Director Meteorological department (MeT), Dr Mukhtar Ahmad said that the weather would remain generally dry from December 29 to 31st.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, he said that from January 1 and 2, there is a forecast of light snow at isolated places while the light snowfall is expected at isolated to scattered places from January 3 and 4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bone-chilling cold gripping Srinagar and other parts of the valley has disrupted daily life, freezing water taps and pipes across the City. Many residents are facing severe water shortages as the icy conditions persist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The taps and water supply pipelines in Srinagar city and other parts of the valley are freezing during the chilling winter, leaving them frustrated and causing water scarcity in many areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Manan Khan, a local from Lal Bazar, said the taps in their house have been frozen, making it difficult to manage even basic chores. \u201cThis winter seems harsher than usual, and we are also facing water scarcity,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Similarly, the freezing temperatures have also disrupted water supply in several areas, leaving many households without access to running water. Locals have urged authorities to address the situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, the weather experts have issued a cold wave alert, warning of severe conditions in Jammu and Kashmir over the next three days. Nighttime temperatures are expected to remain 4 to 8\u00b0C below the seasonal average.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Independent weather forecaster Faizan Arif told that, although not part of the forecast made by weather models, he believes that there is a possibility that low-level clouds might develop during the morning hours and persist until the afternoon, particularly in the plains of Kashmir\u2014(KNO)<\/strong><\/p>\n
