Srinagar, Dec 2 : The Srinagar Court has directed the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, to submit a detailed report on allegations of private individuals unlawfully seizing vehicles while claiming to be authorized by the Traffic Police. This directive follows a complaint filed by Advocate Sarfaraz Wani, highlighting concerns about the erosion of law and order.
The complainant states that his ordeal began when his vehicle was seized by traffic police for alleged violations. Although he doesn’t contest the seizure or traffic challan, he’s deeply disturbed by the manner of the incident. Private individuals allegedly stopped and detained his vehicle, forcing passengers, including female occupants, to disembark, and took photographs and videos without consent.
The complaint has stated that private individuals acting as authorities could lead to anarchy, given their lack of accountability.
The court has instructed the DIG Kashmir to investigate and submit a report by December 13, 2024. [KNT]
