Identifies unsafe drinking water and punitive measures for low electricity usage as major public grievances

Srinagar, Jul 12  : Senior National Conference leader and Member of Parliament from Srinagar, Aga Ruhullah Mehdi, voiced concern over basic amenities including drinking water and electricity in Srinagar.

During his recent visit to various parts of his Lok Sabha constituency, he identified unsafe drinking water and punitive measures for low electricity usage as significant grievances among the public.

“The drinking water is not clean and safe to drink at many places,” he wrote on the X.

He highlighted the widespread problem of contaminated water posing serious health risk to the people.

In addition, Mehdi pointed out an unusual penalty imposed by the Power Development Department (PDD) on households in metered areas. “If the bill of a household in a metered area is below a certain amount, they are penalised by PDD for not using electricity and not generating heavier bills,” he explained.

The MP described the policy both “ironic and hilarious”, highlighting the absurdity of penalising residents for conserving electricity.

He has raised these issues with the administration, urging prompt action to address and resolve them. “I hope they will address the issue as soon as possible and get the matters sorted out,” Mehdi stated—(KNO)
