Srinagar, Feb 19 : Days after NC President Farooq Abdullah nullified the possibility of joining hands with the INDIA alliance for the LS polls, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti rejected the reports about her party too going the NC way.
In a statement shared on social media platform X, Mufti affirmed the PDP’s commitment to the INDIA alliance, dispelling rumors of a potential rift within the coalition.
Amidst earlier reports hinting at the PDP’s intention to field independent candidates in the Lok Sabha polls, Mufti’s clarification aims to reaffirm the party’s allegiance to the India alliance.
The statement came in the wake of similar remarks made by National Conference President, Farooq Abdullah, which fuelled speculation about a potential divergence within the alliance. Following Abdullah’s comments, his son, Omar Abdullah, was compelled to address the issue in a press conference, emphasizing the party’s commitment to the India alliance.
Omar Abdullah, ruling out the possibility of seat-sharing arrangements in Kashmir, underscored the National Conference’s preparedness to cede two seats in the Jammu region and one seat in Ladakh, currently held by the BJP.
As political maneuvering intensifies ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, stakeholders closely watch for further developments and clarity regarding the electoral strategies of key parties in the region. Amidst evolving dynamics and shifting alliances, the forthcoming polls hold immense significance in shaping the political landscape of Jammu and Kashmir post abrogation of Article 370.
