Baramulla, May 25 : The majority of elected councilors of Municipal Council Baramulla on Thursday submitted a no-confidence motion against the MC president Touseef Raina, saying he had “failed to deliver”.
“During the last one and a half years, Raina failed to purchase a single street light. In the last two years, around Rs 8 crore out of 10 crore rupees under the capex budget were lapsed. Isn’t this an inefficiency?” Omar, a councillor asked, while speaking to the media persons.
Signed by 10 – the majority – of the councilors, the document, a copy of which lies with the news agency— (KNO), states that the incumbent president failed to deliver his duties towards the general public and that the major funds were lapsed due to his “inefficiency”.
“We (councilors) are submitting a no-confidence motion against you as President MC Baramulla Touseef Raina as you have failed to deliver your duties towards the general public as well as for the institution. Besides from last one year (23/05/2022) it has been seen that major funds were lapsed due to your inefficiency as President,” it reads.
The councilors said they are giving their consent by signing the resolution “without any compulsion/force”. “Further, our no signature should be entertained without this resolution for the said subject. Moreover, if our signature is found on any resolution of confidence motion or withdrawal of no-confidence motion should not be entertained by MC Baramulla for any further course of action as we are submitting this resolution by our will,” the document reads, adding, “Kindly acknowledge this No-confidence motion against the President namely Touseef Raina as per the J&K Municipal Act-2000 Rules and Bylaws.”
This is for the second time that the councilors moved a no-confidence motion against the president of MC Baramulla.
Meanwhile, Touseef Raina while talking to the media persons after receiving a no-confidence letter said he worked with dedication and sincerity for the people of the district. “Let the people of Baramulla decide who is competent for the president post,” he said.
