Society Must Get Up To Fight Against Drug trafficking: Mohammad Altaf Dar

Srinagar 16 April: Drug addiction is the biggest nuisance, as far as social evils are concerned. Nowadays, a good percentage of people are addicted to it. A recent report suggests that the trend of drug abuse is on the rise among school children as the cases registered are many.

Sometimes the choices are individual and sometimes forced ones, but those choices affect everyone be it society or the generations.

Kashmir valley has seen huge surge in the victims of drug and alcohol addicts over the recent years. Valley in general and South Kashmir in particular is more prominent in these cases.

Civil society groups need to be mobilised to stop drug trafficking at the local level. Parents should monitor the activities of their children and protect them from getting addicted to drugs and falling into the clutches of drug addicts.

Prominent Socio Activist/Trade Union Leader Mohammad Altaf Dar in a statement issued here said, “It requires a comprehensive approach Drug addiction leads to an increase in violence, and criminal activities, general people of Srinagar especially residents of Rajbagh area have recently hailed efforts and swift action of police headed by people friendly SHO Rajbagh Robinder Singh and Its team recovered the huge quantity of Heroin worth Rs 70 cr, over Rs 11 lakh seized from 2 Kupwara from Rajbagh area,” he said.

Further he added that “People of Rajbagh area vouched to be always ready to support police to eradicate menace of Drugs from the society which is the real sign of Police Public relationship. Dar said our union territory Jammu and Kashmir’s youth are goaded into drug abuse from an early age. Personal trauma mixed with bad company can lead to drug abuse, and often addiction. The negative impacts range from loss of appetite, malnutrition, infections, changes in personality, etc. to severe mental health issues and memory loss. Imprisonment and arbitrary detention of drug abusers only make things worse. Rehabilitation is the proper way to fix this problem, along with steps to discourage the use of drugs”, he said
